How to use Habit Hero

Progress over perfection. Consistency over streaks.

Understanding consistency scoring

Traditional habit trackers reset to zero after one missed day. After 89 perfect days, missing one means "0-day streak" — and 60% of people quit at that point.

Habit Hero measures consistency, not streaks. Miss a day after 89 and you're 99% consistent. That's the actual truth, and it's what keeps you going.

consistency = (completed + partial × 0.5) / (total − skipped − vacation) × 100

Example: 30 days with 25 completed, 3 partial, 2 skipped → (25 + 1.5) / 28 × 100 = 95%

When to use each check-in type

✓ Complete

You did the full habit (30/30 min workout, drank all water, etc.).

~ Partial

You did some but not all (20 of 30 minutes). Gets you 50% credit — way better than nothing.

× Skip

You consciously chose not to do it today. Excluded from consistency math — no penalty.

Setting frequency

Don't default everything to daily. That's the fastest way to burn out.

  • Daily — water, medication, things that must happen every day.
  • Weekly (3×/week) — exercise, reading. Gives flexibility for life.

Tip: Start weekly. Move to daily after success.

Vacation mode

Going away? Don't let it ruin your consistency. Add a vacation period in Settings and those days are excluded from the math.

Without vacation mode

80%

80 / 100 days

With vacation (10 days)

89%

80 / 90 days

Best practices

  1. Start small. 2–3 habits, not 10.
  2. Realistic targets. 20 minutes, not 60.
  3. Use partial. 50% beats 0% every time.
  4. Check in daily, same time each day.
  5. Review weekly. Open analytics on Sunday.
  6. Don't aim for 100%. 80–90% is excellent and sustainable.

Reading your consistency score

  • 90–100% — Excellent 🎉
  • 80–89% — Great
  • 70–79% — Good
  • 60–69% — Needs adjustment
  • < 60% — Make the habit easier
